About BSHU

My name is Nikki and I'm the primary author of this blog. But I'm hoping I'll add other authors, fellow bloggers, along the way.

The philosophy mission of Blog So Hard University (BSHU) is simple: Experience Teaches! (By the way, that's what the phrase in Latin on the header means.)

When I first started blogging in 2009, there were plenty of resources for writing good content. But I'm already a professional writer and I already had a pretty good foundation (although you don't need to be a professional writer to blog). What I didn't know is how to build an audience. And I wanted to! I wanted people to read my blog and I wanted to build a community of people interested in the same things I'm interested in.

As time passed, and I did start to build an audience, I then set my sights on making money from blogging. I figured since I spend so much time blogging, why not try to make a few bucks off of it.

The lessons I've learned - the experiences I've had - have taught me so much about what it takes to have a successful blog. It takes more than just an opinion. It takes some marketing savvy, some business skills, and a lot of simply knowing, and staying true to, your audience.

In that my experiences can help others launch their blogs, I offer them up. I'm not an expert. I don't even play one on t.v. But I am blogging - and making money from blogging! And I'm experimenting and trying new things all the time.

So if you're just starting out with a blog, join me! You're bound to at least learn what not to do. If you've got a blog and want to take it to the next level, join me! I give out lots of tips other pro-bloggers won't give. If you are a pro-blogger, join me! I truly believe there's strength in numbers. The more we get people using best practices in blogging, the more brands and audiences will recognize the time and skill that go into it!

About Me
My name is Nikki Massie and I'm the owner and author of Bariatric Foodie, a blog that helps weight-loss surgery patients learn to play with their food.

I'm also a professional writer for a global non-profit organization, a part-time grant writer, part-time social media strategist and a part-time graduate student. (Yes, I am crazy, thanks for noticing!)

It is my immediate aspiration to turn Bariatric Foodie into the first "by post-ops, for post-ops" online magazine and community. And I'm almost there!

I live in Baltimore, Md. with my two daughters, my black cat and my Basset Hound
